Lead Technician Telecommunications


  • Location: GTA (Toronto Region)


  • We’re looking for a Lead Technician, Telecommunication who has extensive knowledge and
  • experience in telecommunication equipment & structured cabling. Someone who can walk onto a job site,
  • read blueprints, run clean cables, install and test equipment, and lead a team to deliver high-performance
  • network installs.
  •  Inside Plant Implementation
  •  Full Time, Permanent 
  •  Wage: $34.50 per hr /$38 pending on experience
  •  Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (Occasionally 12:00 am – 8:30 am)

  • Job Description:


  • The employee is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of
  • telecommunications equipment and systems. This includes telephone lines, internet services, coaxial and
  • fibre optic cable networks, and DC power cables. Additionally, the role involves addressing client needs
  • as they arise and reporting them to the management team. The ideal candidate will be able to act as a
  • bridge between the project manager and a team of technicians, ensuring a clear understanding of all
  • aspects of the project, including documentation, floor plans, cable run diagrams, equipment
  • specifications, testing procedures, and cabinet elevation drawings.
  • Main Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Installation of Central head-end equipment such as Alcatel 2260 series, Nokia 7750 SR series,
  • Nokia 7210 SAS Series, ONT G-2425G Series, and SDX 6000 Series X-GS PON remote OLTs,
  • including rack mounting of equipment, commissioning, and testing.
  •  Complete and maintain test reports/results, such as EtherSAM, NetFlow Analyzer, ISP-ADM,
  • OTDR (EXFO D-Series & VIAVI 4100-series) and OLTS link loss Report.
  •  Conduct site surveys with the network planning & Design team to determine the best approach to
  • expand/ improve the network service in the buildings, estimating resources, costs, and materials
  • involved, such as Fibre, Coaxial cable, Equipment and other passive network elements.
  •  Create quotes in the Project Tracker using ISP task codes and submit them to clients for
  • purchase orders, and update ISP’s project tracking software.
  •  Submit Network Service Ticket/ Network Control Ticket (Remedy system) requests for Head-end
  • build, hot cutovers and equipment migration. 
  • Coordinate and assist technicians with Fibre raceways, cable ladder, and conduit pipe, support
  • and unit installations in the Data Center and MDU.
  • Repair or replace faulty cables, power supplies, amplifiers, repeaters, and Indoor/Outdoor cell
  • boosters.
  • Diagnose and locate equipment faults, and adjust, replace or repair legacy telecommunications
  • equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and install fibre optic, Coaxial cables, splitters, CWDM multiplexers and
  • demultiplexers, routers, and ONTs by interpreting blueprints.
  • Familiar with fusion and mechanical splicing.
  • DC power cable, lug and panel installation as part of equipment installation.
  • Analyze test results and adjust, change or repair switching system, network, associated
  • equipment and software
  • Initiate the dispatch of appropriate repair personnel for service call.
  • Input project As-built information
  • Train and coach other technicians within the team
  • Prepare Project status and production reports.
  • Meeting with clients to discuss project scope and strategies.
  • Maintains inventory by keeping supplies readily available and placing orders as necessary.
  • Occasional maintenance window cutover shifts for service and power (00:00 to 08:30)


  • Qualifications:


  • Degree/post-secondary training program in Electrical, Electronics or Telecommunications
  • Engineering is an asset
  • 5+ years of proven work experience in Telecommunication Industry
  • Deep understanding of Network topologies, Internet Service Provider protocols, and policies
  • Deep understanding of the infrastructure and architecture for the 2 GTA ISP companies
  • Must be able to work at heights above 25 feet, whether on a ladder or aerial work platform. Must
  • have working at heights and elevated platform training certificates.
  • Knowledge of data centres, equipment, and telecommunication network architecture
  • Comfortable with functions and use of hand tools, power tools, and industry-specific tools such as
  • punch-down, power cable crimping tools, ethernet crimping tools and fusion splicers
  • Comfortable with all manner of Test Tools, such as multi-meter, Cable Testers, LFI, Ruby Red,
  • RG59 toner, OTDR, OLTS, Telephone-Data Test Sets, NetFlow analyzer and FLUKE DSX2-
  • 8000QI/G INT.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical power, power distribution, and power protection.
  • Knowledge of Alpha and Emmerson BDFB, inverters and backup battery cells.
  • Understanding of various sizes of network cables, such as Loose-tube, tight buffered, Ribbon
  • fibre and copper) and connectivity experience
  • Ability to interpret technical material and plans
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly with Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Strong command of the English language, both spoken and written
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to clearly communicate with internal and external project teams
  • Ability to lead others, coach, train and develop strong teams
  • Detail-oriented with solid problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Multi-tasking ability; adaptable to changing priorities and deadlines
  • Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and resolve problems independently; monitors own
  • quality of work
  • Mandatory Requirements:
  • Must possess valid G license and clean driver’s abstract
  • Must possess police clearance certificate
  • Reliable vehicle required
  • Must be able to lift and carry max 23kg/50lbs
  • Travel Requirements 80%
  • Ability to stay out of town for extended length of time
  • Clean security background check
